A COMPLETE TRIGGER POINT THERAPY PRACTICE.

A Trigger Point Therapy practice based on Travell and Simons

PERSONAL  EXPERIENCE

My interest in musculoskeletal pain “unfortunately” started at the age of 14 when I mysteriously began to experience low back and sciatic pain. By the time I turned 20, I was having great difficulty walking because of a herniated disk and severe trigger points in my low back and hip muscles. Despite being evaluated by an orthopedic surgeon, the cause of my herniated disk and trigger points went undiagnosed. As it turned out my right leg was a half inch longer than my left!  Subsequently I saw a chiropractor who did find the leg length discrepancy but wanted me to “sign up” for $1,500 worth of what would have been useless manipulations. All I really needed was an inexpensive half inch heal lift in my left shoe to correct the leg length discrepancy, and specific stretching exercises to eliminate the trigger points. This personal experience with severe pain is what set me on my own therapeutic odyssey and intrinsically motivates me to help others with their musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction.

PROFESSIONAL  CAREER

Jeff Watson has been treating musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction since 1982. His initial training was in structural integration / myofascial release, deep tissue and sports massage at the Soma Institute in Gainesville, Florida. Although the focus of the training was on the body mind aspects of therapy, students were equally required to learn joint manipulation and trigger point therapy for musculoskeletal pain. After returning to the Detroit area Jeff continued to pursue further training in trigger point therapy for muscular pain and dysfunction and osteopathic muscle energy technique for joint pain and dysfunction. Jeff has personally studied with some of the world’s leading authorities in their fields including: Former White House physician Janet Travell, M.D. and David Simons, M.D. (trigger point therapy), Dr. Bill Williams Ph.D. (structural integration / myofascial release) and Benny Vaughn, L.M.T., A.T.C., C.S.C.S., N.C.T.M.B. (massage and sports massage). Since the mid 1980’s Jeff has treated over 150 of the Detroit area’s elite athletes from the Lions, Tigers, Pistons and Red Wings.
